Playground injuries are becoming more of a concern for most parents. As studies are helping us understand more about concussions, we are taking them more seriously in children. And one place for kids to common suffer head trauma is on playgrounds.
For many kids. they may show some signs of pain. Including crying or sitting out from playing for a few minutes. But after the first initial pain, kids may show little or no signs of head injury. In that, these injuries can become especially dangerous.
Playground Injuries: Common Causes
Design of the equipment
One reason for these injuries is the height of the equipment. In most cases, these playground are high off of the ground. This allows for plenty of room to fall, causing head injuries as well as sprains and broken bones. In addition, many of these playgrounds have spaces below meant for hide outs and playing grounds. But these low places can also present danger by having low hanging objects in dark areas that will deliver a hard blow to the head.
Lack of adult supervision
Another factor that contributes to playground injuries is a lack of adult supervision. Since they are running around in a small space, adults often do not feel the need to watch their kids. But without this restriction, kids may do many things that will cause them injury.
Lack of maintenance
One more aspect that can lead to a child’s injury is a lack of equipment maintenance. Most of these playgrounds get a lot of wear and tear from kids playing on them. And after a short period of time, pieces can become weak and broken. Without proper maintenance, these worn places can cause serious injuries to children.
Receiving Compensation
While any type of injury is possible on the playground, it is concussions and head injuries that cause most concern. However, in any case you may not be liable for an injury your child sustained on a playground and may be able to receive compensation for the accident.
