Use proper equipment

Some jobs might involve moving around a lot of very heavy items all day. In these cases, they’ll provide equipment like forklifts or hand trucks for added help. Use them! Remember proper technique

Something else that also goes a long way in preventing overexertion is using proper lifting techniques. A common mistake is lifting with your back rather than your legs. This puts a lot of strain directly on your back with an awkward motion. Lifting with your legs will prevent this and use the muscles designed for carrying weight. 

Additionally, when carrying items, keep them at waste level. Keeping them at or above your head puts strain on your back and increases the chance of losing your balance. Keeping them at waste level uses your arms and muscles designed for carrying instead.

It’s important to remember to not push yourself past your limits! Take periodic breaks to stretch and rest your muscles. Move items one at a time instead of in groups. Drink plenty of fluids as well to keep yourself hydrated. This is especially important if you’re moving items in a hot environment.
